Station 431,425,404,439,436, BC 401, EMS 401, responded to a
report of smoke coming from the apartment. Engine 431 arrived
on the scene with smoke showing and advancing a hand line to the
third floor apartment. Engine 431 and station 425 had gotten an
aggressive knock on the fire quickly saving the majority of the unit.
The fire was contained in the kitchen area. Engine 404 assessed
side Charlie of the building, proceeded to conduct a primary
search on adjacent floors, and secondary of fire floor. Great job
to FS 431 and 425 on giving Battalion 1 another successful
outcome. Units started clearing in a little over an hour.
B shift looses 2 medics to other stations
Lt. Paul Stuart leave station 4B to a new assignment at Fire Station 439 on C Shift, Lt.
Stuart will be missed by the 4 family and wish him good luck on his new home as he counts
down to retirement!
Also Stephanie White has left station 4 and transferred to Fire Station 440 B Shift we wish
her good luck on her transfer.
Engine 404 on the scene with heavy smoke showing!
B shift catches a small isolated job. Units
from stations 404,425,431,439, 436 and 611
responded for the report of a house fire on
Monroe Street in downtown Herndon. Engine
404 went on the scene with heavy thick black
smoke coming from the structure. Crews
advanced an 1 3/4 line to the basement and
found a heavy heat source on the TIC coming
from a treadmill. The treadmill caught fire
after shorting out and put off thick smoke due
to the material that it was made of.
Second lightning strike, Second alarm sounded in 436
Engine 436 arrived on the scene on a townhouse fire after a lighting strike in the attic. Engine 404
responded as the 3rd due engine company and took a leader line into exposure B1. Engine 404
checked for extension and found residual smoke. The fire walls did their job and contained the fire
in the original unit. Stations 36,31,4,25,39,40,15,,21,611,
House Fire in 439 First Due!
Just after lunch Engine and Medic 404 responded for the
report of a house fire after a lightning strike. 404 arrived to
pick up Engine 439's line and had light smoke from the roof.
Crews operated with an 1"3/4 line in the attic with Rescue 439.
Truck 425 and Tower 436 worked on the roof to stop the
spread. Units from stations 39,4,25,12,36,and 31 operated for
over an hour.
Engine 404 runs another job! This time in Reston.
A-Shift finally breaks the cold streak.
Engine 404 was responding second due
on a 25 Box. With reports of fire from
an apartment, the boys were gearing
up. Tower 401 was filling 25 and arrived
first. They struck the 2nd shortly after
they arrived. Engine 425 arrived and
their crew advanced the first line as
Engine 404 helped flake 25's line and
then pulled a second line to back the
guys up. Fire was under control in a
short amount of time and is still under
investigation. No injuries to civilian or
department members were reported.

5/25/07
1. The day started out with preparing for station inspection, when Engine and Medic 404 got
alerted for a working code, The patient was resuscitated successfully on arrival of Reston Hospital.
This is the 3rd working code in a row that we have had a spontaneous pulse on arrival of accepting
facility. All patients went to the ICU, unknown actual long term outcome.
2. On arrival to Reston Hospital Engine 404 got alerted to Dulles International Airport for a large
aircraft that was heading to China had an engine catch fire in the air. The aircraft landed at Dulles

3. An accident happened in front of station 431which alerted Medic 404, 425, 439, 436 and co
command staff. 6 patients were involved 4 were minor and 2 others as traumas were taken to
Fairfax.
4. Another person was taken to Fairfax Trauma after getting into a fight in front of the station
after an altercation. The gentleman was struck in the head and taken for a possible closed head
injury. Alcohol was a factor in this altercation .5

Tim comes to us on B shift as the apparatus tech from station
425. A great guy with a big heart for the fire service. He has
years of experience and will be a great asset to the Herndon
community. Welcome aboard brother!
The Firefactory runs another!!
This time in Co. 439's first due, Engine 404
responding as the fourth due engine. Multiple
reports of a house fire in the area of Hunters
Square. Engine 404 had secondary water supply,
the crew advanced the Mercury Monitor on side
Baker of the structure. Other units who responded
were stations 439,412,425,,611, 618,429,401 and
EMS 401. Battalion Chief 401 had command.

Apartment fire breaks out in Reston on Feb. 20 2007. Engine
425, 439, 404, and 412, Truck 425 429, Medic 425, Battalion
401 and EMS 402 responded to 1614 Becon Tree Lane.
Engine 425 arrived on the scene with smoke showing from a
garden apartment just before 7am. A small fire was located in
the bedroom and crews had a good knock on it in the first five
minutes. Most of the assignment was released in about 20
minutes. The cause of the fire in under investigation, no
injuries were reported.
Icy roads keep station 404 busy.
On February 7, 2007 A shift keeps up the tradition accidents on icy
roads. Engine and Medic 404 in addition to Medic 439 ran a car vs.
tree. As usual the tree won and sent a couple people to the hospital
with minor injuries. This is a reminder to all of us of what can happen
in cold weather. All emergency vehicle driver operators need to be
mind full what road conditions are at all times. Remember we are no
different and it can happen to anyone. The members of 404 wish the
family a speedy recovery.
All before the snow falls on one of the coldest days yet this winter!
Another busy day for Engine 4's crew, 3 Box's
were ran in addition to plenty of water pipes
bursting from the cold weather. But that didn't stop
the trend of calls. A little later a personal injury
accident occurred at Elden Street and Ferndale
Avenue. Engine 404 responded with Ambulance
436 and Herndon PD to find a two vehicle
accident. Ambulance 436 transported 1 patient with
minor injuries to local hospital.
Fire factory 404 goes to work in 36 area on
the first day of snow fall
Old Engine 4, vehicle 7042 was back home in Herndon when the box dropped
for a House fire @ 2603 Barnside CT. 1st Alarm units were E436, E431, E404,
E415, TL436, A436, BC401, and EMS 401. E436 marked on scene with
garage fully involved with extension to the home. Engine 404 arrived 2nd with
the water supply. Master Tech Burtlow keeps the streak of fire alive yet again.
Engine 436 stretched the attack line with the Tower crew executing ventilation
and primary search during an aggressive attack on the structure. Engine 404
Capt. Kostecka took command, PFF Maciel got some nozzle time with FF
Obleas backing up his rookie. Engine 431 took a 3rd line upstairs. Incident
went to 2 alarms. Aggressive teamwork and coordination by all 1st alarm units
kept the fire in check and saved the structure from a total loss. Pictures

Dog Rescued in 1st due Fire
Engine and Medic 404 went on the scene with a 2 story single
family with smoke showing and a report of an animal trapped.
Engine 4 went to work quickly advancing a hose line into the
basement, Medic 4 took care of outside utilities and ventilated side
Charlie of the structure. When ventilation occurred medic 4 crew
recognized the confused dog and pulled him to safety. Engine 404
and Tower 436 had extinguished the bulk of the fire that started in
the basement. The 404 had assistance from stations
436,439,425,431, 611and EMS 401. Battalion 401 had command

A Shift catches small fire in Reston

Shortly after 12:00 pm the box dropped on 439's area for a
report of a building fire. Engine 439 arrived on the scene with
smoke in the area. After turning up a long drive way, Engine 439
found a house with heavy fire and smoke showing. Two
additional engines were alerted to for water supply, and within
moments a second alarm was struck by PSCC. Just after the
second alarm was sounded, structure collapse of the building
slowed firefighters to go into a defensive operation. No civilians
were injured in the blaze. One firefighter was taken to the
hospital for minor injury and check up. Engine 404 stayed on the
scene with first alarm units for a little over 7 hours. Stations
439,412,425,611,404,431,618, 429,436 were on the call. Other
tankers were dispatched from Montgomery County MD and
Prince William County in addition to 420 but were soon in
service
Kitchen fire starts in garden apartment in 431's area
2008 brings big changes to Fire Station 404, starting with promotions and
transfers. Technician Greg Bishop to FS40, Lieutenant Tie Burtlow BAT2 Relief,
and Firefighter Maciel transfers to FS31. We will greatly miss everyone who has
served here and wish them all the best of luck.
We would like to welcome Technician Feaster, Firefighter Perry, Firefighter
Wicker and Firefighter Moss to Fire Station 404.
